When you're older, trips to foreign countries probably mean more to you. Especially if you're that nationality. It seems really weird, coming back to the US, where you are surrounded by blonde, blue eyed people and you're the only one with black eyes and hair. In China, you feel like you belong, and you're not a foreigner. There is no asian syndrome, because everyone there follows it. Instead, the foreigners probably have foreigner syndrome. In smaller cities, people are really nice and you talk to strangers a lot. It is SO CROWDED though. But I wonder if I like that. There are many people to talk to. First thing I thought when I came here: these people are fat!! no offense. But in China, one in 200 people or something are obese or overweight or something. I'm considered larger than average there because a lady had to get me a bigger size from the back of the store... lol. In the northern cities, tianjin and beijing the girls are very tall and skinny. About 1/4 of them or so are like over 5'8" and probably under 120 lbs. I didn't realize so many Chinese women were very tall. The more south you go, the shorter people are. In Beijing, the girls wear the CUTEST clothes! They wear skirts with ruffles with matching shirts, and with awesome strappy sandals. I came here and I was like, people in minnesota wear boring outfits! lol. Because people in mn wear khakis, jeans and sweatshirts, while ppl in Beijing wear tailored pants, shirts with cool design and cute dresses! I need to start eating healthier. The junk food in china is like healthy food in the us. I drank a glass of tropicana today, and it was like packed with sugar. I also need to start exercising more. That's probably why the people there are so skinny. The walk and bike and eat healthy foods. It's very ironic. The Chinese want to stay white, while Americans or should I say caucasians want to be DARk. During the afternoon, people walk with umbrellas over their head so they won't get tan. The first couple of days were very rough because i was so tired and I was adjusting to everything (esp. the bathrooms!) squatting was very tricky. lol. Eating was hard because my grandparents forced food down my thorat. Ni bu neng chi zhe ge fan zai mei guo!! and then i was constipated for the first few days bc of the airplane ride (the airplane pressure you didn't need to know that) I want ot live in Beijing when I get older. That means I will need to work hard on Chinese. I know about 1/3 of the words I see, and I want to be able to get to 80%. Not all guys smoke in China, but a lot of them do. My two uncles smoke and my grandma. It's culture. It' sculture to smoke and sit and talk with your friends. The girls don't smoke though... it's weird. I think the girls want to keep their complexions :). It's also weird how old people don't die from smoking. I mean here in the US, you hear these horror stories about getting lung cancer and stuff. But the truth is, most people who have lung cancer have never smoked a cigarette in their life. Smoking is not looked down upon, but it's not favored either. Sometimes the type of cigarette is a sign of class. I miss china. I"ve only been home twelve hours. I want to be able to walk down the stairs of the apartment and buy a popsicle. I want to be able to eat beef noodles or go window shopping. They say America's century has passed, and now it's China's. The country is BLOOMING! Most everyone has cell phones and digital cameras and computers just like here in the US. The cell phones are a lot more sophisticated there. you can im on you phone too! i tried it with my cousin's. You right a word in chinese and the cell phone tries to read the work and it gives you choices to which one your word resembles. awesome! and in china, people put lil trinkets in this hole on their phone. i bought a bunch to give to friends and stuff. Carrie, you NEED to come over. I got a BUNCh of dvd's. cold mountain THE TERMINAL -haha, it's still in movie theaters but i have it here!! lost in translation shakespeare in love gladiater master and commander unforgiven girl w/the pearl earing eurotrip for the moment the company lilo and stitch silence of teh lambs spiderman 1 and 2 farenheight 911 ( i know, it's still in the movie theaters) chasing liberty seabiscuit down with love lord of the rings triology passion of the christ kill bill 1 and 2 calender girls dirty dancing-havana nights matrix reloaded the tuxedo the pianst dumb and dumber bruce almighty shrek daddy's daycare oh wow! we'll have to see them all b4 summer's over! it's gone by way to fast!!!! a few weeks! arck! arck arck we only have three years left.. i'm so tired i haven't slept in 40 hrs. gdnite it's 5 am right now |
